The Memphis Soaring Society is a nonprofit corporation, organized under the laws of the State of Tennessee as an organization to promote the art, science and sport of motorless flight. We receive support from the Mid-South Soaring Foundation, Inc., which the IRS has approved as a 501(c)(3) organization. Membership is required to utilize any club aircraft or facilities. A one day membership is available for individuals who are interested in the sport. The cost is $100.00 and includes one flight in one of our two place gliders.
Membership
MSS is a soaring club that has approximately fifty five members. We operate out of our own airport located in Cherry Valley, AR, approximately 9 miles North of Wynne, AR and 50 miles west of Memphis, TN.
[Directions]
Most club members live in the tri-state area of Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee.

Facilities
MSS is located on 104 acres of Arkansas farmland. We currently boast a 1,300 square foot club house with shower facilities and complete kitchen, and a 100' x 150' hangar. Our runway is 300' wide and 3,638' long and topped with bermuda grass. Three RV pads with water, electricity and sewer are available for use by club members for a small fee. Long term leases are available for members who desire to build a private hangar. To date, four members have done so. 1-2 acre lots are also available for members to build homes.
Aircraft
We operate five club-owned gliders and two tow planes as well as numerous privately-owned gliders.
Operations
We fly regularly on Saturdays and Sundays, April thru October, weather permitting. Sunday operations usually begin around noon. Saturday things get going around 10 AM. We pack up and go home at varying times. During the summer months you can expect members to be at the club late enjoying food, drink and good company.
Instruction
Primary and transition training is available to members for free. The training is provided by members who are FAA-rated glider instructors. One member is a FAA Designated Examiner who is available for prearranged check rides. Saturdays are "instruction" days. Instruction is scheduled from 10AM - 2PM, but may go longer depending on the quantity of students and the instructor's schedule.
